James Baldwin wrote, "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." Awareness is certainly an important and necessary condition for evolving, with learning how to slow down and pause being essential to the process. Meditation and breath work seem to be most often recommended for the cultivation of awareness. But what if these modalities evoke anxiety, stress, and other blockages that aren't conducive? What if meditation and breath work don't do it for everybody?
In this workshop, we will experiment with a different approach: doing everyday activities at varying speeds in infinitesimally incremental ways. This allows us to gently (re)establish safety and trust with our somas as we move towards awareness, towards change. Additionally, together we’ll explore and reflect on our perceptions of and relationships with time, urgency, and slowness. We’ll expand our imaginations and capacities for what is possible and necessary for our growth, healing, and transformation.
It is our intention that you leave this foundational workshop feeling supported, validated in seeking a different approach, equipped with helpful tools and frameworks to move forward in your journey, and fortified as we continue to mobilize for the liberation of all peoples.
A recording will be available for everyone who registers, so you can engage with the material and practice at your own pace again and again, and/or if you cannot attend live.
Slowing Down at the Speed of Trust is donation-based, on a name-your-price scale, with a minimum contribution of $15. If you have the capacity to offer more, we invite you to do so. Your contribution sustains the operations of the school, compensates the educators, and opens up access for folks in our community.
When you register for this workshop, you'll also receive access to Rootspace, our freeĀ community space for continued learning, reflection, and connection with others walking the path of embodied healing and liberation.
