terms and conditions:
(re)defining the relationship with our inner oppressors
a 'practicing freedom' workshop, with monica climaco
June 04, 2026
6:30 to 8:30 pm Central
in this workshop, we continue to work with that piece of the oppressor which is planted deep within each of us* which stands in the way of our freedom and transformation. after excavating that inner critic or another similarly oppressive, difficult-to-deal-with part in us, and after getting to know it from a safe-enough distance, we dive deeper into reclaiming its power over us. we move towards alchemizing it into power with us. how? we (re)define the relationship, determining and delineating the ways in which we are open to interacting with this part moving forward. like negotiating a contract, we will come up with specific terms and conditions that work for us and with us, not against us. essentially, we expand the part's knowledge beyond the ways of the oppressor, presenting other tactics and dynamics that feel more like freedom.
we'll be drawing from parts work and shadow work, dipping into the realms of boundaries and consent, while using a mix of improv, theatrics, creative play, and other approaches. all with a dose of whimsy. this workshop is for anyone who is doing their best to heal, grow, do good, stay aligned with their values and desires, and basically just live their lives and be, yet gets held back by that piece within. let's nurture different patterns and try out new choices for moving closer to embodying freedom, together.
"terms and conditions" is the second session of a 2-part reworking of "Practicing Freedom," which our school offered as a Somatic Practice Space last Spring. while it is not mandatory to attend both parts, we invite you to do so if you can. or at least engage with the first part in some way before participating in the second. you might have a richer, more in-depth experience in the second workshop should you have an understanding of and practice from the first workshop.
* “The true focus of revolutionary change is never merely the oppressive situations which we seek to escape, but that piece of the oppressor which is planted deep within each of us, and which knows only the oppressor’s tactics, the oppressor’s relationships.” -Audre Lorde

A recording will be available for everyone who registers, so you can engage with the material and practice at your own pace again and again, and/or if you cannot attend live.
'terms and conditions'Â is set on a name-your-price scale, with a minimum of $22. If you have the capacity to offer more, we invite you to do so. Your contribution sustains the operations of the school, compensates the educators, and opens up access for folks in our community.
